Wisdom of Athena 1000 is the sequel to Wisdom of Athena with a slight bump in the stats department. Namely, the max multiplier has increased from 500x to 1000x, and the max win from 5,000x to 10,000x. Everything else, bar some cosmetic and audio tweaks, remains the same, but it’s still a great game from the world of Gates of Olympus. The main difference compared to Gates is how the multipliers work in the bonus round, and how you have an extra unlockable row on the grid, but other than that, it’s very similar.
If you’re unfamiliar, let’s recap on the basics of Wisdom of Athena: this is a pays anywhere/scatter pays game, so you just need to land 8 or more symbols anywhere on the grid to register a win. Wins tumble away to be replaced by more symbols, potentially creating a chain reaction.
Also, Athena sometimes sends down multipliers with random values to work on any wins. And, as we said above, there’s an extra row above the grid that you can unlock gradually via tumbles, offering up more real estate for symbols to land on – you could potentially turn the grid from 5 x 6 into 6 x 6. And 3 Scatter symbols take you into the bonus round, where any multipliers stack up progressively, leading to the possibility of huge wins.

How To Play
- Choose your bet size and start spinning.
- In the base game, land 8 or more base symbols anywhere on the grid to create a win. Winning symbols tumble away to be replaced by new ones, and the spin is over when all possible wins have been registered.
- From time to time, Athena will add a multiplier onto the grid, and if one lands on the same spin as a win, the total win is multiplied. The possible values range from 2x-1000x.
- The 6 x 5 grid has an extra top row that can be unlocked gradually, turning it into a 6 x 6 grid. Each square in that top row is unlocked with a certain number of tumbles within the same spin
- 4 or more Scatter symbols take you into the bonus round with 10 free spins. Once again this round starts with the top row locked, but now the unlocking is done throughout the whole round, rather than just within 1 spin.
- Multipliers that land in this round stack up in the Total Multiplier, which is applied to any win.
- Whenever 3 or more Scatters hit within the bonus round, it retriggers 5 more spins.

- Wisdom of Athena 1000 is barely any different from the original. Yes, it has the potential for a 1000x multiplier and a 10,000x max win, but we’ve never seen a multiplier above 100x in our test sessions, let alone 1000x.
- Still, this new version from Pragmatic reminds us that this game exists, and it’s a nice twist on Gates of Olympus. In a way, Athena is less volatile because all multipliers contribute to the Total Multiplier in the free spins, regardless of whether they land on a win or not.
- However, multipliers also land less frequently to balance this more lenient mechanic out, so perhaps it’s a less exciting slot overall.
- The base game seems difficult, but the bonus game pays out well, so it’s worth a spin if you’ve never played it, or the original, before.
