The ‘3 pot’ genre has become something of cash cow for the slots industry, and we’ve seen a glut of these games over the last few months. Some earlier examples like 3 Pots Riches: Hold and Win by Playson and 3 Hot Teapots: Hold and Win by 3 Oaks felt new and fresh, but more recently we’ve seen certain sections of players grow bored of the concept, as every studio releases its own spin on the idea, often without much innovation.

If you can speak Spanish, you might have guessed from the title that Tres Pinatas is another one of these games, but can Hacksaw lend its considerable pedigree and expertise to fashion something better than the average? This studio already released a 3 pot game in the form of 3 Cursed Chests earlier in 2026 – it was OK and had a fun pirate theme, but the gameplay felt a bit circular and repetitive.

Tres Pinatas takes things in a Mexican/Day of the Dead-type direction, with bright, colorful visuals and a Mariachi-style soundtrack. More specifically, we’re in a rustic courtyard area with houses or shops in the background here.

As for the gameplay, it takes place over a 5 x 3 grid and 9 paylines. As with many 3 pot games, there’s really not much going on in the base game, and the emphasis is placed on the 3 flavors of Hold & Win available. In this case, it’s ‘Double’, ‘Multi’, and ‘Collect’, represented by 3 Skulls: Blue, Red, and Green.

You need to land the corresponding Piñata to trigger the respective round, and – again, like most other games in this style – even if you land the Piñata, you’re not guaranteed to enter the round. You’ll likely need to land a few before it randomly triggers, but the animations and sound imply that each Piñata is fueling the Skull or building up to the trigger. In actuality, Hacksaw’s own instructions say: “The animation does not influence the activation of the 3 Skulls of the 3 Piñatas.”

This is medium volatility though, so it won’t take too long before you get lucky, or you might end up hitting more than one round at the same time – this is possible. Either way, the Piñata will stay sticky and the Hold & Win round begins, with the standard 3 lives that get replenished every time a Coin/Jackpot symbol lands.

Here are the different mechanics at play:

• The Blue Piñata multiplies 1 Coin value by 2x every time the Hold & Win lives are refilled.
• The Green Piñata collects all Coin and Jackpot values after the 3 lives run out for the first time.
• The Red Piñata multiplies Coin values and Green Piñata symbols in a 3 x 3 area at the end of the round.

If you’ve played a few of these games, you might realize that these effects are not necessarilly the standard, so Hacksaw gets a thumbs up for innovating a little, and this does make Tres Pinatas one of the better examples of this genre. It’s coming to the market relatively late, so it might not be able to displace some of the popular mainstays, but I’m sure it will see plenty of spins.

Ultimately, it’s one of the biggest studios in slots doing a fairly decent rendition of a genre that casinos seem to love right now.

How To Play

1. Choose your bet size and start spinning.
2. In the base game, 3 or more symbols/Wilds form wins on the 9 paylines left to right.
3. Blue, Red, and Green Skulls sit atop the grid representing the ‘Double’, ‘Multi’, and ‘Collect’ Hold & Win bonus rounds (3 replenishing lives). Landing a Piñata of the corresponding color can trigger that round. You can also land more than one to combine effects.

8. As the round ends, all the prizes are added together to get the total win.
