Gates of Olympus Dice is the latest slot in this super successful Pragmatic Play series, but honestly, we don’t really see the point of this version. For a start, it’s a reskin of the original Gates of Olympus, meaning it retains that game’s stats, which are lower than that of Gates of Olympus 1000. The more recent 1000 version upped the max multiplier and the max win, so we’d have hoped this Dice version was based on those improved stats. However, we’ve dropped back down to a 500x max multiplier and 5,000x max win.

Then, the only things that have changed from the original are the music and the visuals, and that mainly involves replacing the original symbols with dice. That’s it, and honestly, the dice thing can feel like a downgrade. Someone mentioned that it could be to help the visually impaired, but I find it much harder to tell what’s going on now, especially at speed.

Before, it was easy to differentiate between the various colors and shapes of symbols, but now it’s tricky to quickly spot potential wins because the symbols can look similar. Not that this affects the outcome, but being able to assess the grid is very much part of the fun of slots. As is immersing yourself in the theme, and whereas the original gems and golden objects felt very much part of Zeus’ world, the dice do not.

There’s also the theory I mentioned in my Sweet Bonanza Dice review, that the values written on the dice symbols help you know which ones are high value and which ones are low value. But in this game, that system from Sweet Bonanza Dice has been flipped on its head. Now dice with more dots have a higher value, while dice with fewer dots have a lower value. You’d think Pragmatic might keep things consistent across this series, but no. So if anyone has theories as to why this dice version might be an upgrade, please email in!

All grumbles aside, the gameplay remains unchanged, and at its heart, Gates of Olympus is, of course, still a great slot. It’s pays anywhere, and you’re looking to land 8 or more of the same symbol to create wins. These winning symbols then tumble away to be replaced, until no more wins remain on the grid. Zeus will randomly furnish the grid with multipliers, and things get especially exciting in the bonus round, where multipliers build up until the end of the feature.

How To Play

1. Choose your bet size and start spinning.
2. The aim is to land 8 or more of the same symbol anywhere on the 6 x 5 grid.
3. Doing so will award you a win, and the symbols will fall away to be replaced in a tumbling style. The spin is over when no more wins remain on the grid.
4. Zeus will randomly send multipliers onto the grid, and if one lands on the same spin as a win, the multiplier value will apply. More than one multiplier means the values combine additively.
5. Land 4 or more Scatter symbols to enter the bonus round with 15 free spins. You can also turn on the ante bet to increase your chances of spinning into it, or simply buy the bonus.
6. The bonus is similar to the base game, but now multipliers are more frequent and they stack. Whenever a multiplier combines with a win, the value from the Total Multiplier is applied to the win too, then the multiplier from the current spin is added to the Total Multiplier for use in subsequent spins.
7. If 3 or more Scatter symbols land in the bonus round, you retrigger 5 additional free spins.

Bonus Features

• Free spins round: In the free spins, a Total Multiplier now builds until the round is over. Whenever a multiplier lands alongside a win, it applies, along with the Total Multiplier value. Then that multiplier is added to the Total Multiplier to affect further spins until the end of the round.
• Ante bet: Add 25% to your wager to double your chance of spinning into the bonus round.
• Buy the bonus: Buy into the bonus round for 100x your wager.
• Free spins hit frequency: 1 in 448 spins on average, but you can double your chances with the ante bet for an extra 25% of your wager. Or you can simply buy into the free spins for 100x your wager.
• Max win: This is set at 5,000x. If you want a higher max win with the same game, you could try Gates of Olympus 1000.
