Gates of Olympus 1000 Review
Gates of Olympus 1000 is part of Pragmatic Play’s 1000 series, meaning it’s basically the same game as the original with tweaked features to make it a bit more volatile. But Zeus now booms out some dialogue while holding bolts of lightning aloft too – that wasn’t there before. One such phrase is: feel the power! Combined with his stance and physique, it reminds us of He-Man!
And with a max multiplier of 1000x, you really do have the power, at least if Zeus is feeling generous. Yes, this is one of the main tweaks for this update. The original had a max multiplier of 500x, and now it’s leveled up to 1000x. But in all our hours of play, we’ve never seen either, so how much difference will this really make to the average player? The potential max win has also tripled to 15,000x, but again, you only have a 1 in 697,350 chance of hitting this.
The gameplay is essentially the same as before. Namely, 8+ base symbols will register a win in a pays-anywhere format, and the cascade effect ensures winning symbols fall away to be replaced, potentially setting off a big chain reaction. Multipliers are handed out at random to apply to your win, and once you enter the free spins round, multipliers stack in the Total Multiplier box.
Pros
- Potent format can often lead to big wins, even in the base game
- This slot still looks great and Zeus’ dialogue adds to the immersion
- It’s Pragmatic, so it’s high RTP (96.50%)
Cons
- The tweaks are fairly minor
- It’s technically just a reskin of Starlight Princess 1000
How To Play
- Choose your bet level and hit spin to start.
- Landing 8 or more base symbols anywhere on-screen will give you a win.
- Any winning symbols disappear to be replaced, cascading style. This continues until no winning symbol batches remain on the grid.
- Zeus may hand out multipliers, which will increase your win amount for the spin in question.
- If you land 4 or more Scatter symbols you’ll enter the free spins round. You can also buy your way in. Here multipliers build up for the duration of the round. So if a multiplier lands on a winning spin, not only will it affect your total on that spin, it’ll be saved into the Total Multiplier. This is then applied to any further winning spins (with a multiplier) for the rest of the round.

Bonus Symbols
- Scatter symbol: Land 4 or more of these to begin the free spins round. You can retrigger an extra 5 free spins if you land 3+ Scatters again.
- Multiplier symbols: Zeus hands these out randomly and they’ll have one of the values from: 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 8x, 10x, 12x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 250x, 500x, 1000x. Of course, the lower values are much more common.
Bonus Features
- Free spins round: You get 15 free spins to start with. The gameplay here is the same as the base game, but with the addition of the Total Multiplier feature, plus a higher likelihood of getting multipliers from Zeus. Every time a multiplier lands and gets used, the value is added to the Total Multiplier value, displayed in the top left. This amount is then applied to every subsequent win which lands with a multiplier. Subsequent spins that don’t land with a multiplier can’t make use of the Total Multiplier. Landing 3+ Scatter symbols will retrigger 5 spins.
- Free spins hit frequency: Exactly the same as the original, it’s said to hit on 1 in every 448 spins. Alternatively you can use the ante bet to increase your chances of spinning into it, or simply buy the bonus to buy your way in.
- Max win: This is upped from 5,000x to 15,000x. The probability of hitting remains the same as before at 1 in 697,350.
SweepsPlays Verdict
- If you enjoyed the original (or Sweet Bonanza, or Starlight Princess 1000), it’s very likely you’ll enjoy this, because the core gameplay is very similar.
- This is one of the more subtle tweaks for the 1000 series.
- Some players still prefer the original Gates of Olympus with its slightly lower volatility.
- It’s still a great game; high RTP and high volatility from one of the most reliable studios around.
