It’s time for the latest slots round up, with a few hits and a few misses. Which ones are which? Read on to find out…
Fiesta Clusters from BGaming feels quite uninspired, if I’m honest. It reminds me of Fruit Party, but with a Mexican theme. That slot, while popular, is overrated, in my opinion – it’s just a cluster pays game with random multipliers. So if you want something super simple and easy to grasp, Fiesta Clusters could work for you, but for most players, this will not be very exciting.

After a recent run of some fairly original, high quality slots, Hacksaw has fallen back on a reskin. Yes, Spear of Athena is basically Le Pharaoh with a different theme. You have 19 paylines available again, and any winning lines trigger respins while remaining sticky, potentially building up many more paylines across the grid. Just like Rainbows in Le Pharaoh, landing a Fortune symbol turns any winning squares into bronze, silver, or gold coins. In fact, each symbol has an Ancient Greek-themed equivalent in Spear of Athena.
I will say this is not a straight-up reskin, as the bonus round is more pared down compared to Le Pharaoh – there’s no hold and win-style feature here. As a standalone game, it’s great, but bearing in mind this has all been done before removes a lot of the lustre.
I was looking forward to playing Castle of Terror 2, as it’s not often we get a new slot from Big Time Gaming. Rumbles online say it’s a great, scary slot (just in time for Halloween) but the demo is currently unavailable in the US…
The name Breakout triggered memories of the classic 1970s Atari game, but, no, this is a new slot from Nolimit City with a gritty, criminal theme and a flashy, neon art style. As for the gameplay, we have 20 paylines on a chunky 5 x 4 grid, with features like Syndicate Multipliers and Chain Reaction Respins. Both add a good deal of fun to the base game, with the latter being pretty similar to the main mechanic in Spear of Athena.

Breakout Spins and Clearout Spins can be classed as the two levels of the bonus round, and they incorporate the two aforementioned special features well. In fact, it’s great how the 3 characters are integrated into the mechanics, and each character can be removed from play via a Kill symbol. While this slot lacks the biting humor that often accompanies a NLC release, this is a solid title with great integration between theme and gameplay.
Chicken Dash is not a slot, but TaDa’s take on the Chicken games we’ve been seeing pop up at casinos like Stake.us. However, it’s a bit more fleshed out than other versions, with features like the titular Chicken Dash that mean you can advance 2 or 3 squares at once, rather than just 1.
To finish this section off, Crown of Fortune, also from TaDa, has a high RTP at 97.11%, but a low max win of 1,000x. The aesthetic draws inspiration from old-school fruit machines as well as royalty – talk about a funny mix! You’ll find a slot that revolves around Expanding Wilds, but, to cut a long story short, there are more interesting games to try out this week.

Game of the Week
Merge Up 2 is actually very similar to Fiesta Clusters, which also came out this week; to be honest, I’m surprised BGaming released them both at the same time. However, Merge Up 2 is decidedly better. Yes, it’s another cluster pays game, but it certainly has more going on, and fans of colorful gem games and puzzle-type slots will enjoy this.
Just like the original Merge Up from 2023, when a cluster forms a win (4 or more), some of the gems disappear, while the rest convert into a new type. You see, there’s a hierarchy of gems, which leads to a progression from low value ones to high value ones.
You can get some neat, well-paying chain reactions, and a Bomb Symbol has been inserted into the progression. This destroys some of the gems around it – allowing for more to tumble in – then turns into a Scatter.

3 or more Scatters trigger the bonus round, or you can buy in and there are 3 different flavors of bonus to choose from. The basic idea is that you get highlighted squares with multipliers à la Sugar Rush, so wins can balloon suddenly.
Yes, this game is pretty rewarding. That makes sense when you see the RTP of 98%, plus a 10,000x max win potential. It’s great when you get into one of the big chain reactions, and this is one of the better games from BGaming in recent memory.
